BECOME A BOWLS MEMBER AT NFBC
Full Membership
New Farm has an existing broad base of active members participating in weekly Social Bowls and
competition bowls throughout the year. Read on for an overview of our membership opportunities.
It is a great opportunity to mix with likeminded people who enjoy activity and social engagement.
Bowls is an excellent activity that encourages a competitive but friendly environment for all age
groups, along with good social interaction. If you are interested in playing Bowls or finding out more
about what the game of Bowls has to offer then New Farm Bowls Club is the right place to
start. Whilst we draw our members from surrounding areas, we welcome members from across
Brisbane. Our Club is located within easy distance of Bus and Ferry public transport and there is
ample on street parking around the Club.
Weekly Social Bowls
The Clubs main social bowls day for full members is Wednesday morning commencing at 9.15am
and concluding at around 12.00pm. This is an ideal platform to learn the game and meet passionate
members who are happy to assist new bowlers. Members play in organised playing groups of pairs
or triples with players rotated each week, so that newer members are joined with existing members
considering experience and ability. At the conclusion of play members retire to the clubhouse for a
post-match catch up and drink.
We understand that not all members can attend on a Wednesday so there is also Social Bowls on a
Saturday morning for those who have commitments during the week and members can elect to play
on both Social Bowls days. Participation is flexible and you can attend as it suits your commitments.
Competition Bowls
In addition to the weekly social bowls program the Club also participates in interclub pennant
competitions. This affords the opportunity for bowlers who aspire for a more competitive arena with
many our competent regular bowlers also competing in these events. New Farm is affiliated with
the Brisbane District Bowls Association who sponsor and run these events over the course of the
year. This gives members the opportunity to play at different Clubs in the Brisbane Northside area
–stretching from New Farm to Toombul.
Club and Interclub Competitions
All full members are eligible and encouraged to participate in our annual club competitions. These
competitions include the usual events of Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours in both Men’s and Ladies
competitions. There are also competition’s catering for Novice bowlers as well as the normal A and B Grades.

Coaching
Bowls has broad appeal, is a game for people of all ages and abilities and can be played on equal terms by almost anyone. It does not require special strength or athletic ability. We know that many potential members may be apprehensive about taking on a new sport in which they have never participated. For this reason, the Club runs a comprehensive coaching program to assist new bowlers. This is done on a voluntary basis by understanding experienced bowlers with Bowls Australia coaching accreditation. In around three or four one-hour sessions our coaches can teach all the fundamentals to allow newer bowlers to participate with confidence. This coaching
program is provided by the club on a no obligation, no charge basis and is a key feature of our
support to attract new members with no previous bowls experience.
As well as coaching on bowls techniques, our comprehensive personal coaching program includes advice on an introduction to lawn bowls, bowls selection (there are different sizes and weights), bowls etiquette and common bowls laws.
Please contact John Cameron on 0418 741 078 or email jcameronbowls@gmail.com.au to enquire about our coaching program.
